I’ve been at the smoothie game quite a while, thanks in part to Nisha Moodly, who I lived with for a few years way way back in time. We shared a dilapidated mansion like townhouse in Jersey City, and shared a kitchen and foody sensibilities. Nisha was of the “eating for wellness doesn’t have to be gross” school, and her food was lush. She started every day making a smoothie that she would pile all kinds of supplements into. It was like a magic potion, and they made me feel amazing.
It’s become an intrinsic part of my eating routine, and I feel best and most balanced when I am making my daily emulsion of goodness. It’s been fun to always experiment with what works and what makes my tummy feel best. I’ve realized that the best smoothies are ones that celebrate a color. Green for gut health, pink for brightness, purple for detox. You can keep a lot of your supplement bases, but then use things in the same color palate.
This smoothie celebrates green. I’ve others that go deep purple, or bright pink, or creamy chocolate. They all support slightly different things. All of them share being great vehicle for nutrients, hydration, and digestive health.
Minty Choco Avo Green Smoothie Heaven
1/2 cup cashews
spoon of peanut butter
1/4 packed mint leaves
1 big handful of spinach
1 small chopped green apple
Scoops of flaxseed, collagen powder, cocao nibs
Pour in coconut water about halfway up, and then blend with 2 ice-cubes (I like mine cold) until really really smooth and creamy.
